A Moooooarvelous Birthday!!

Today is my 27th Birthday and I'm excited to say it could end now and I'd be able to say that I loved my birthday. I'm so lucky to have such great friends. Cathy and Pat surprised me with my very own Moo Cards. I honestly didn't think I had any work that was as we call it "moo worthy" but they proved me wrong! Thanks guys! You rock!! :)

New Direction for Old Tables

Well, I’ve started a new little hobby! I have these two cheap tables I got a long time ago and I’ve had them covered with tablecloths. Well, since I have allergies and the cloth attracts kitty hair, I decided I’d either have to get rid of the tables or do something different with them. They were too ugly to leave them be without the tablecloths covering them… sooooo I took this atlas I’ve had forever and never really used, stained most of the pages with tea, some darker than others, and some I even used a little bit of watered down acrylic brown paint… to make the maps look old. I crumpled them up, tore them up, and laid them out to dry. When they were dry, I ironed them and used mod podge to slowly but surely cover the tables. I was sure to put cities and countries that have special meaning to me on the top. I let them dry and then put glass on the top... they look great in my apartment!! I love them!! And I'm excited to have found an activity that is fun, creative, productive and relaxing! I am thinking this may lead to more things in my apartment being covered with maps...

Pat and I spotted this little spider spinning a web on the back license plate of a car in the parking lot this morning when we got to work. We decided to take a picture with my phone... it's extra cool because it is actually a shot of the underside of the spider.

Eventually, a security officer stopped by... "Is everything okay over there ladies?" He seemed skeptical at first but then very interested when we showed him our cool shots... but then.... who wouldn't be?!

I wanted to attempt a Zentangle but was not in a positive state when I set out to try it.

I decided to modify these song lyrics to portray a sense of being trapped and to express the feelings of desperation that can sometimes accompany depression or “the blues.”

I've found that Zentangles are indeed therapeutic!!

Black and White Doodles

I did these teeny little doodles at Artfits on Tuesday. I've typically think of a subject and then set out to draw it. In this case, I learned it can be a lot of fun to doodle randomly and THEN find the subject. The general consensus was that this one looks like a bird.

And that this one looks like an alien or some underwater sea creature.

I've recently been taking guitar lessons so when the IF word "Hollow" popped up, a guitar was an easy choice for me. This was first drawn with my black pens and then I tried a new technique- Watercolor!! A special thanks to Pat and Cathy for letting me borrow their supplies and for teaching me the value of letting go of control and perfectionism... I quickly found that when it comes to watercolor, it often has a mind of its own!

As a part of the Pass It On, Random Act of Kindness, Give-Away, I have officially received my first piece of mail art!! I came home to a wonderful package sitting on my doorstep! The package included a beautifully altered photo (which will soon grace a wall in my apartment) and a handmade card. My scanner didn’t exactly do them justice but I wanted to show them off and send a big THANK YOU to Nancy. You made my day!!

Yesterday, when I went out to my car to leave for work, there were bugs all over my car... not the typical infamous Midges but new GIANT bugs...

Took this pic through the windshield with my phone.

The car next to me was even worse off.

The bugs eventually got blown off as I drove to work but I thought the expereince was blogworthy. :o)

Lucky Catch

When we were on vacation at the Outer Banks, my older brother, sister-in-law, 4 year old niece, dad, two uncles, and I got up at 5:00AM to go fishing in the ocean. I was lucky enough to catch two fish and these shots with my phone... Planning to frame them and give as Christmas gifts!

Grocery Shopping is for the Birds

Went grocery shopping yesterday after work and when I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed this big fat seagull sitting on the top of the car next to me. I very sneakily leaned over and took a picture with my phone through the passenger door window. The girl was completely oblivious to both me and the bird. I would have taken closer photo but he flew off before I could get out of my car.

I can't wait to dive into all the new projects we've dreamed up. I swear there's nothing like brainstorming with that group. One little idea turns into a multimillion dollar corporation haha. My family and I are going on vacation soon to the Outer Banks. My nieces are going this year so I’m extra excited. I painted this little juice container for my youngest niece, Mylie. She turned one in March. I plan to paint one for Macie who turned four in March. Can’t decide between Dora and Spiderman- suggestions?

This is my favorite photo I've taken in Pat's studio. It reminds me of all the famous songs and stories that involve the sun, the moon, and/or the stars "hanging" in the sky.

I prefer the idea that they are swimming. They move and dance and float and dive... Nobody put them there. They are there by choice. And I join them whenever I can.

Some of my friends and I have started an altered book club called "Artfits". Pat, Cathy, Annette, Kerri and I meet every other week to alter books, paint, collage, sketch, work in our art journals, share our work, etc. I took some photos of Pat's studio (our designated meeting place) and thought that a few of these photos would be the perfect way to start out my new blog. Since her studio is where I was first inspired to create a blog, I thought it best to first provide an idea of the environment in which I feel so compelled to create and THEN share my creations. Enjoy!
